Bed and breakfast
Catherine Hunter has set up her artists's studio in the Place de la Vielle Halle aux Blés, right in the centre of Brussels near the Jacques Brel Foundation on this charming square, just of the main road between the Sablon and the Grand'Place. With her partner Daniel, Catherine purchased two seventeenth-century houses on returning to dry land after many years of sailing the seven seas together on their catamaran. Catherine's studio is visible to passers-by and the building also houses an art gallery and a guest suite, comprising a pretty bedroom painted in shades of burgundy, taupe and white and a delightful bathroom with brown-and-beige- tiled walls. A pretty spiral staircase leads up to a small dining area and kitchenette, where guests are free to prepare and eat meals. Guests are welcomed in the bar, situated between the studio and the guest suite. The gallery displays Catherine's figures in terracotta and bronze. Behind the gallery is a small shop selling Catherine's ceramics, including her famous chickens, now manufactured on an industrial scale by a licensee. A delightful discovery, right in the heart of Brussels.
