Bed and breakfast
Located half-way between the city and the open countryside, the village of Vissenaken still counts a few old farmhouses among the more recent villas. It is in the region of Hageland, famous for its orchards producing pears, apples and walnuts. This entirely renovated farmhouse has some pretty B&B guest rooms in one of its wings. A beautiful space containing a large dining table, a longe area and a small kitchen sets the tone. The rooms have been tastefully decorated and furnished with carefully-chosen ornaments and furniture. Each of the three guest rooms is decorated to a theme. The "Het Hooge Noorden" suite is decorated in warm hues of green and brown, and its comfortable bed is set in an alcove covered with a very real-looking (but fake) animal hide. Across the landing, the "Savane" room is decorated in shades of brown and beige with furniture that looks as if it's been brought back from the Savannah somewhere. Further on, on the same floor, is the "Maghreb" room, decorated in shades of turquoise with a delightful en-suite bathroom. The breakfast table offers organic bread and brioches, home-pressed apple juice from the orchard, home-made walnut paste, farmhouse cheese and ham and fresh seasonal fruit...just what you need to energise you for a cycle tour of the surrounding countryside. Guests can relax in pretty corners of the garden or in the walnut orchard.
