Bed and breakfast
This wonderful fortified farmhouse was given to the Knights Templar in around 1135 by Godefroid I, Duke of Brabant. In the fourteenth century, it passed to the Order of the Knights of Malta, and was auctioned off as a "national asset" after the Belgian Revolution in the nineteenth century. The building's sixteenth-century Gothic chapel has survived. Today Anne, Alain and Corine Hautteman and their families live in the former outbuildings, and the main building is a B&B. Their father is an antiques dealer and he has furnished the guest rooms with some of his favourite pieces, including Brussels tapestries and Spanish and Italian furniture. The four guest bedrooms are located on the first floor, and we particularly recommend the large bedroom with its private bathroom and splendid views over the garden. The other three bedrooms are just as charming and share a bathroom on the landing. An establishment that will appeal particularly to lovers of architectural heritage.
